Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are available to anyone aged 16 and over. They combine work and learning

Overview

Apprenticeships are available to anyone aged 16 and over. They combine work and learning.  Students can choose to attend a block of theory and learning at the beginning of the apprenticeship or attend college one day per week.

Students can begin an apprenticeship at the end of Year 11 or at the end of Year 13.
Students at Aston Manor Academy can discuss apprenticeships with the school careers advisor to gain information, guidance and support to establish a pathway and successful application.

An apprenticeship provides training in a chosen sector and an understanding of the workplace, plus the chance to develop work-related skills and knowledge while getting paid. Apprenticeships usually last between one and five years, depending on the level. Apprenticeship levels include;

Apprenticeship Levels Include:

Intermediate (Level 2)
Advanced (Level 3)
Higher and degree (Levels 4-7)

Students start at intermediate level if it’s in a brand new industry or sector, even if they have previously studied at Level 3 in sixth form. This is because you will need to learn and develop brand-new skills.

All apprenticeships are advertised on the National Apprenticeship website, and you can search by distance from home and the sector you are interested in as a possible future career.

For more information, advice and guidance about apprenticeships, please follow the links below or book a meeting to speak to Mrs Hughes in the library.

We also work with ASK Apprenticeships and have information assemblies and workshops to help you apply and secure an interview.

Apprenticeship Advice

Hints & Tips for Parents AND Carers

Apprenticeships have changed a huge amount in the past few years. There are more than 1,500 different job roles, ranging from intermediate level through to degree apprenticeships.

We offer Level 2 apprenticeship programmes, ideal for those who are not yet ready to undertake qualifications at Level 3 or  students who are keen to undertake a more vocational route.

Students will choose a specialist vocational qualification following discussion with the sixth form team. Students will spend two days each week completing their vocational course, with one of those days dedicated to work experience. The other three days will be spent in school, when students will take further subjects to support them in securing the next stage of their education or employment.

Students are required to study English or maths at Level 2 in order to improve their GCSE grades, if they have not already gained a grade 4 or above.

In addition, all students are required to study the Lessons in Financial Education LiFE qualification. The LiFE qualification will improve student’s employability skills, teamwork skills and ability to manage themselves better.

Subject to meeting ongoing course requirements, successful completion of this pathway will enable students to access Level 3 programmes such as Business Administration, Retail and Customer Services.
